Status of Minority Women in India

Development alone cannot bring peace and prosperity unless social justice and gender equality are ensured. Women are major contributors to India’s economy and important constituent of development. Their empowerment is essential for distributive justice for the nation’s growth. Engendering national development plans is imperative for gender mainstreaming and their empowerment. Engendered development plans would include a gender dimension in all macro policies and budgetary support for their implementation. Women’s needs are multi-dimensional – access to health and nutrition, water and sanitation, asset based marketing, credit, technology, education and skills, political participation etc. Thus, convergence of development policies, programmes, schemes and institutional resources is imperative for engendering and inclusive development. Against this backdrop, present book highlights to examine the profile of the women belonging to minority communities in selected 13 states of India. It is expected that the book will be of immense importance for understanding the status of minority women in India and evolving road map for their empowerment.
