Life on the Indo-Pak Border : A Paradox of Security and Development

The present volume emerges out of the need for a comprehensive analysis on the lives of borderlanders living on the Indo-Pak border. Though efforts have earlier been made in trying to document and understand the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan but little has been done to integrate these findings with the grounded reality. The present volume represents a broad investigation of hitherto untapped though a strategic area and highlights the dilemma faced by the residents of border areas through both theoretical and empirical framework and in-depth inquiry on the life at the Indo-Pak border. The contents in the book would provide valuable information to policy makers. civil society, think tanks, security and strategic analysts as well as to researchers engaged in conflict studies and resolution. The book attempts to focus on 'bottoms up' approach. highlighting the trial and tribulations of people living in and around the Indo Pak border. In this pursuit it tries to articulate on three key concerns which occupy the chapters' as follows I Spatial Identities at the Border and Borderlands II Exclusion at the Border III Governance and infrastructure at the border
