NGOs and Dalit Development

The changing social and economic realities, coupled with declining confidence in the capabilities of governments, haver new demands on the civil society institutions, especially the Non-Governmental Organisations. The emergence of NG0s, being one of such endeavour bkthout any profit motto, assists them in their attempts to fulfill the mandate of Welfare State. Few NGOs are believed to have good intentions of creating a homogeneous nation where all can pursue their goals without facing discrimination and injustice and without remaining stuck in the cruel net of poverty. The book focuses on the NGOs contributions with regard to development of Dalits in the light of India being the "Welfare State". It examines why a large majority of NGOs fail to deliver towards improvement of lives of Dalits, inspite of tall claims and use or misuse of huge resources available at their end. The book thus portrays and helps to understand the actual role-played and various programmes and activities employed by the NGOs in the process of Dalit empowerment. It also describes the strategies and processes which NGOs adopt for empowerment of Dalits.
