Understanding Tribes of Northeast India : Issues and Challenges

The book discusses and debates theoretical, conceptual, and empirical issues that have arisen from studies of the tribals of Northeast India, and by extension, those of India in general. It sheds new light on tribal societies and aimed to produce multidimensional outcomes and prospects for future academic research on various issues concerning tribes of this region. It allowed us to see them in the contexts of socio-political structure, as well as  to gain an understanding of how far they have retained or changed their identity and socio-cultural system.

This collection is a sincere attempt to critically examine the conceptual process of tribal formation, which is fraught with a cross-current of ideas.It is expected to underscore the  emerging realities, issues, and challenges that tribes face in various contexts in contemporary Northeast  India. The book will be of interest to researchers and students of anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, tribal studies, social work, and other related fields of study in addition to tribal activists and policymakers.
