Priesthood is no longer a hegemonic profession. It has been practiced by other castes as well, especially, one of the priestly castes of Dalit's called Mala Dasari/Mala Dasu/Mittala Ayyalwar belonging to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
