Gadicherla Harisarvothama Rao (1883-1960). popularly known as Andhra Tlak. Iles a doyen among the freedom fighters in pre-Ganctian era and a fearless journalist in the ershistie Madras Presidency. He was a multifaceted personalty. During the Vandemataram Movement r 19C7. he was the first student of Government Trairang College, Rajahmundry to be rusticated. For hes editorial in -Swarajya" dated March 26,1908 he was sentenced to three years imprisonment (1908- 1911). He was the first Telugu Editor to suffer the most inhuman treatment in Vellore jail. He was also associated with Library Movement and Adult Education.
Mahatma Gandhi visited Rayalaseema in 1921. 1929 and 1933-1934 during the freedom struggle. Harisarvothama Rao translated his speeches into Telugu. Way back in 1922, Mahatma Gandhi described him in -Young India" as 'Brave Harisarvothama Rao".
A postal stamp in his memory, a life-size statue in his home town Kumool, preservation of his journals. his correspondence and radio talks are the rich and apt tributes to be paid to this "NISHKAMA KARMA YOGI'. It will be good if the universities in A.P carry out a holistic and in-depth research on Harisarvothama Rao.
