'Inclusive and Sustainable Development' is the upshot of research related to the UGC funded DRS project undertaken in the Department of Economics, the University of Burdwan. The competitive spirit engendered by the forces of globalization has in many cases led to untoward interventions into common pool resources which have accentuated the poverty of already marginalized class of people. These can be mitigated and compensated through the initiation and designing of such public goods as poverty alleviation, mass welfare oriented fiscal and monetary policies, and environmental protection. This calls for a fairly equal distribution of socio- economic opportunities and unhindered access to natural resource base that provide sources of livelihood to poor class of people. Despite a number of strategies adopted at different times since the beginning of plan period, a substantial part of people still remain below the poverty line, have no steady employment apart from that in overcrowded informal sector and are vulnerable to food and nutrition insecurity. The spotlight should be focused on the importance of inclusive development which is conditioned by expansion of regional scope of economic growth, expansion of access to assets and thriving market and expansion of equity across individuals in an economy, no matter who they are and where they live. This book contains 14 papers covering various issues of inclusive development pertaining to Human Development, Gender Issues, Finance & Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development. The readers of this book are likely to have a comprehensive grasp of different aspects of inclusiveness aspect in general and sustainability aspect in particular.
