Common Property Forest Resources in West Bengal : Challenges to Livelihood and Environmental Sustainability

The primary focus of the book is to examine the nature and extent of common property forest resources (CPRs) in West Bengal and its likely impact on rural livelihood. It also attempts to explore the implications of the extractions of common property resources on rural poverty, environmental degradation and conservation. The book establishes the nature of association between CPR extractions and agricultural risks in rural West Bengal along with the gender issues. The effective management of common property resources is considered to be the pre-condition for sustainable rural livelihood and in averting the tragedy of the commons.
